Emmelle Design, founded in 1982, is an apparel manufacturing company in New York City’s Garment District. It has independently produced two designer clothing collections since its founding and pivoted into PPE manufacturing in March2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. During that time, Mi Jong Lee, Emmelle Design's owner and founder, founded theNYC Manufacturers' Coalition, a network of 3-10 CFDA/Made in NY certified factories, to meet the volume demands.
The pivot to PPE manufacturing laid a firm foundation for volume apparel manufacturing via a domestic supply chain and Emmelle Design has worked with small, medium, and large scale businesses on a wide range of production projects since.
Emmelle Design is committed to domestic manufacturing and the betterment of New York City's Garment District. Looking to the future, automated machinery has been sourced with the intention of aiding efficiency and evening the playing field between domestic and overseas sourcing options.
The domestic advantage is agility and the ability to leverage consumer data and shorter manufacturing timelines to better align production with demand. Businesses with a focus on sustainability will benefit from the reduction in overall inventory demands as well as the shortened physical distance raw goods and finished goods must travel.
Emmelle Design is capable of producing a wide range of finished goods, but has extensive experience producing apparel (woven and cut-and-sew knits), accessories, and homegoods.
The team has an extensive background not only in manufacturing, but also in product development, pattern making, sample making, and high-end garment construction. This knowledge equips them to see projects of varying scale from the early stages of development through to completion.
